Main muscle: Chest
Also works: triceps · shoulders · abs
Equipment: no equipment
Typical: 2–4 sets of 8–20, leaving 1–3 reps in the tank.
How to do it
- Lower your body as one unit and keep shoulders, hips and feet in line.
- Hands slightly wider than your shoulders, elbows about 45° from your body.
- Squeeze glutes and core; lower until your chest is close to the floor.
- Too hard? Put your hands on a bench or a sturdy table.
Common mistakes
- Letting your hips sag or piking your butt up.
- Flaring your elbows into a T.
- Pushing your head forward to “reach” the floor first.
