Overhand pull-ups
Back · pull-up bar. Bring your chest to the bar without swinging your legs or jutting your neck.

Main muscle: Back
Also works: biceps · forearms · abs
Equipment: pull-up bar
Typical: 2–4 sets of 8–20, leaving 1–3 reps in the tank.
How to do it
- Bring your chest to the bar without swinging your legs or jutting your neck.
- Start from a hang with active shoulders: pull them down before you pull.
- Drive your elbows toward your ribs and lower until your arms are straight, under control.
- Can't get one yet? Use a band or do slow negatives only.
Common mistakes
- Half reps: not going all the way down or not getting your chin up.
- Kicking or swinging to get up.
- Shrugging and craning your neck toward the bar.
Alternative
No equipment, or want to switch it up: Cable lat pulldown.
