Seated calf raise machine
Calves · machine. Set the pad on your thighs, put the balls of your feet on the step and raise your heels as high as you can.

Main muscle: Calves
Also works: almost all the work falls on the main muscle
Equipment: machine
Typical: 2–4 sets of 12–20.
How to do it
- Set the pad on your thighs, put the balls of your feet on the step and raise your heels as high as you can.
- Lower your heels below the step until you feel the stretch.
- Pause at the top for a second; the work comes from your ankle, not from pushing with your legs.
Common mistakes
- Bouncing at the bottom instead of pausing in the stretch.
- Doing half reps because the weight is too heavy.
- Turning your feet in or out without control.
Alternative
